Background

Entertainment marketing for Hollywood studios

Founded in 2016 by Kyle Kubler and his wife, Tiny Dino is a creative agency and post-production studio with offices in Los Angeles and Portland. The team makes entertainment marketing, including social campaigns and VR experiences, for studios such as Paramount, Sony and MGM Amazon.

Their work needs a network that moves large media files on tight deadlines and meets the security requirements of studio partners. When audits were scheduled, the old network was not ready.

The challenge

Slow transfers and an audit the old network would fail

Network congestion & slow file transfers

Tiny Dino's old network struggled with congestion and slow transfers between their LA and Portland offices. A 10GB file could take 30 minutes, too slow for major studio deadlines.

Security audit readiness

Security audits driven by Trusted Partner Network (TPN) compliance standards were imminent. Their old setup had no compliant firewall or router, putting studio partnerships at risk.

Inter-office file sharing

Their Synology server could not sync large media files between the two offices fast enough for growing studio work.

"Security audits were coming, and our old setup wouldn't pass. We needed a firewall and router that met compliance standards."

— Kyle Kubler, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Tiny Dino

What we did

SD-WAN, compliance and 10Gb production networking

We deployed UniFi to cover the security requirements, the link between offices and the bandwidth a production studio needs.

Deployed infrastructure

  • UniFi Dream Machine SE at each office: compliant firewall, routing and intrusion prevention (IPS)
  • SiteMagic SD-WAN connecting LA and Portland offices for secure, fast inter-office file sharing
  • U7 Pro Wi-Fi 7 access points for high-throughput wireless throughout production spaces
  • UniFi switches with 10Gb connectivity for editing and rendering workstations
  • One UniFi controller managing both locations from Portland
  • Automatic IPS updates that keep the TPN controls current without manual work
  • U7 In-Wall and U7 Pro Wall APs, installed to suit the look of the creative spaces

"Before UniFi, transferring a 10GB file took 30 minutes. Now, it's under five, keeping projects on track."

— Kyle Kubler, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Tiny Dino

Outcomes

Audit-ready and built for deadline-driven production

  • Large file transfers reduced from 30 minutes to under 5 minutes between offices
  • TPN compliance achieved and security audits passed
  • Remote management from Portland across both LA and Portland offices
  • The network grows with the business, with no overhaul needed as they consolidate to Portland
  • Dante audio routed over the same network as video workflows with Pro AV profiles
  • Sony and Paramount deadlines met on the new network

"UniFi held strong when it mattered most — that win cemented our trust in it."

— Kyle Kubler, Co-Founder & Creative Director, Tiny Dino
