Private Florida airport hangar
How we deployed UniFi networking and cameras to protect corporate aircraft through Florida hurricane season.

A corporate aviation operation on the Gulf Coast
A private hangar in coastal southwest Florida houses aircraft for a Part 91 corporate flight department. It needed networking and cameras that hold up to daily operations and to the Atlantic hurricane season.
There was no existing infrastructure, so we designed and deployed the whole facility (Wi-Fi, cameras and routing) in one engagement on one platform.
The challenge
Building for hurricane country
The hangar sits in one of the most storm-prone regions of the continental United States, which adds requirements a typical enterprise network does not have:
Fragmented technology
The hangar struggled with fragmented technology and inconsistent network performance, particularly during severe weather events.
Hurricane resilience
In coastal southwest Florida, the facility needed infrastructure that survives hurricane conditions and keeps the aircraft secure.
High-value asset protection
Corporate aircraft are multi-million-dollar assets, so the cameras had to record around the clock without gaps.
What we did
Full facility UniFi deployment
We deployed UniFi for routing, switching, wireless and cameras on one platform, choosing each component for durability in harsh conditions.
Deployed infrastructure
- UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM Pro) for routing and central management
- 48-port UniFi PoE switch
- Two U6 Pro access points covering the facility
- UniFi Protect with a UNVR Pro for local recording
- G4 Pro 4K, G4 Dome and G3 Bullet cameras covering the perimeter
- Shielded CAT6A cabling and a dedicated Lumen fiber connection
"One camera was damaged when its mount failed in a hurricane. We changed our installation practice for every deployment since."
— Unified IT Engineering Team
Shielded CAT6A cabling and a dedicated Lumen fiber connection keep the network stable inside a metal hangar, where RF behaves very differently from an office.
Outcomes
Through the storms since installation
The network has run with minimal downtime, including through the hurricanes since installation.
- The network stayed up through the hurricanes that followed
- Camera recording was uninterrupted through storm events
- One platform to manage, with remote troubleshooting
- New hardware can be added without replacing what is there
- Single vendor platform across Wi-Fi, surveillance, and routing
Looking ahead
Planned upgrades
The facility can add UniFi Access for keycard entry, Wi-Fi 7 access points and G6 cameras on the existing UniFi platform, without replacing what is there.
